Earlier this year, Julie Sabba joined Pannone’s employment team as a Director. Having spent 15 years of her career working for Lindsays in Glasgow, Julie relocated to Manchester with her family in 2017, joining MLP Law before DWF in 2024.

Four months into the role, we caught up with Julie to find out more about her move to Pannone.

Tell us about your route into the legal profession – I attended the University of Glasgow and then the Glasgow Graduate School of Law, before joining Burness Paull as a trainee. I then spent 15 years at Lindsays, before making the move to Manchester.

Why did you choose this route into law?  This was the traditional route for someone who wanted to become a solicitor in Scotland. However, so much has changed in the profession in recent years, making it much more accessible to get into law.

You joined Pannone is April this year. What was it that made you decide to join the firm? I was attracted by the range of expertise in the team and the friendly and collegiate culture that was abundantly clear during my interviews.

What is the most satisfying aspect of your job? I love connecting with clients and becoming a reliable part or their external support system, ready to help with all manner of queries, from more routine issues to urgent challenges and employment tribunal claims.

What does a typical day look like in the employment team? My days can be quite varied due to the range of clients we advise, from SMEs to larger corporations. However, essentially, I work on a mix of contentious Employment Tribunal work and non-contentious advisory work, whilst also spending time supervising more junior colleagues.

What are your career ambitions? To continue to develop as an employment lawyer, whilst helping to mould the Pannone employment team.

As the legal profession continues to evolve, what can lawyers do to better support clients? As the use of technology becomes ever more present in our lives, including our working lives, the legal profession will need to adjust to harnessing and reacting to AI generated content.

And finally, what would you be doing if you didn’t have a career in law? I always fancied journalism but, honestly, I think I’m in the right job for me.
